Verdeen Sorenson Hanson Lucy, 68, beloved daughter, mother and grandmother, died January 29, 1999 in Salt Lake City, Utah.

She was born on July 15, 1930 in Paris, Idaho to Verden T. and Hilda R. Sorenson. Her father, Verden, died in 1930 and she was later adopted by her stepfather, George A. Hanson in 1938. She graduated from East High School in 1947 and from the University of Utah in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Secondary Education. She received a graduate certificate in Physical Therapy from the University of Colorado Medical School in Denver. She worked as a physical therapist at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City for five years. She married Richard D. Lucy on October 18, 1957 in Salt Lake City. They were later divorced. Verdeen devoted her life to serving others and will be remembered by all who knew her for her unselfishness, generosity and kindness. She was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, giving many years of service in the Primary and Relief Society organizations.She leaves behind an adoring family; mother, Hilda R. Hanson, Salt Lake City; children, Barbara Ann (Arlen) Hilton, Pleasant Grove; George A. (Mariann) Lucy, Salt Lake City; six grandchildren, Cameron (Sherlyn) Hilton, Boulder, CO; Brandon (Deborah) Hilton, Orem; Zane Hilton and Kellen Hilton, Pleasant Grove; Christian Lucy and Erin Lucy, Salt Lake City; and one great-grandchild, Ashlee Hilton, Orem. She was preceded in death by her father and stepfather.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, February 2, at 11 a.m., in the Garden Heights Ward, 2220 East Fisher Lane (2935 S), Salt Lake City. Friends and family may call Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Larkin Mortuary, 260 E. South Temple and at the Ward on Tuesday, one hour prior to service. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
