Police are investigating the death of a man in his late 30s after a body was discovered Monday by a woman walking her dog.

The body was found just before 8 a.m. near a rail spur right of way at 2200 South Lake St. (750 East).Salt Lake Police Lt. Phil Kirk said the body had bruising on the torso, included no identification and the man's shirt was opened.

"At this point, there's not a lot to go on," Kirk said.

The investigation has been turned over to the department's homicide division, which is routine when a cause of death is not immediately apparent.

An autopsy performed by the state Medical Examiner's Office should provide some answers, Kirk said.
