A Central City man is facing felony assault charges over accusation he badly beat his pregnant girlfriend in December.
The defendant "punched and kicked her repeatedly in the stomach, arms, legs and back," court documents allege. She was eight months into her pregnancy at the time, according to the charges filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court.The man pushed his thumb into her eye, prosecutors believe. She later said it felt as if he was trying to push her eye out. He also threw the woman's 2-year-old daughter to the floor.
Paramedics took the woman to University Hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and possible injuries to the unborn child.
The man, 19, is facing a count of aggravated assault and child abuse, third-degree felonies, and two counts of assault, class A misdemeanors.
