America has lost its sight of the meaningful and important issues: I have to agree with Curt Wilbur's Oct. 25 letter to the editor, "Give inmates huts and cots."
We as American servicemen (and now women) have had to live in tent city and or Quonset huts overseas and yes, double bunked, also three and four deep (stacked on top of each other) on those troop transport ships, all for the sake of freedom and for service to our country. We don't need to coddle these people who won't try to live in society and respect others' rights and established laws for the well-being of all.Certain "groups," plus our own elected or appointed officials, are more concerned with the criminal elements' well-being than we are with our country's service personnel, and sadly even less is available year after year for the aging, often disabled, veterans. Shame on America.
For they gave it their best and often their all, even to the final sacrifice. Let's get our moral obligations back on track: Provide proper treatment and health care to senior citizens; provide our children the very best education and see to it we have cleaner, better, safer streets and neighborhoods -- not build $135 million jails.
