A 15-year-old boy is in fair condition at LDS Hospital in Salt Lake City with a single gunshot wound to his chest.

The boy told police someone fired on him from a brown Monte Carlo or Cadillac while he was walking in the neighborhood of 1300 West and 900 South, said Lt. Kent Whitehead of the Salt Lake Police Department. The boy's uncle, who apparently lives in the neighborhood, drove by and saw his nephew hunched over near a bus stop at 1350 W. Navajo St. across from a 7-Eleven convenience store. Police could find no blood and no bullet casings in the area, Whitehead said. "We are trying to determine exactly where the shooting took place."

Police had located no witnesses to the shooting late Saturday, Whitehead said.
