The University of Utah women's basketball team defeated the National Women's Basketball League traveling team 79-64 in an exhibition game at the Huntsman Center Monday.
Junior Lori Red led the Utes with 18 points on 7-for-8 shooting from the field. Sophomore Lauren Beckman had 16 points and seven rebounds and junior Lindsey Sodja added 13 points. Lindsay Herbert and Erin Gibbons had nine points each off the bench.Utah shot 43 percent as a team from the field, using 14 different players.
The Utes open the regular season against Washington State Saturday at home (3 p.m. tipoff).
Kina Brown led the NWBL with 19 points and nine rebounds. Brown was seven of eleven from the field and five of seven from the free-throw line. Loyola Moore posted 16 points and grabbed six rebounds, while Kim McGuire added 10 points. The NWBL shot 38 percent from the field (11 of 29) in the first half, 47 percent (14-for-30) in the second half and 42 percent in the game.
The Utes open the regular season Saturday at home at 3 p.m. against Washington State.
