ASHTON BUSWELL, Weber: Add another honor -- Deseret News prep athlete of the week -- to the incredible resume of this standout student-athlete.

Next month, Buswell will represent Utah and the western United States in New York City as a national finalist for the Wendy's High School Heisman award.Buswell earned state and regional merit by displaying amazing versatility as a student (3.9 cumulative GPA in honors classes, student body president), as an athlete (state champion and international wrestling power, football star, soccer player) and as a citizen (Cystic Fibrosis fund-raiser, painted the press box).

On Friday, Buswell led his Warriors to the 4A championship game. He rushed for 169 yards and scored the game-winning touchdown as Weber edged rival Fremont 17-14 at Weber State. He also played a solid defensive game.

ANALYN SKABELUND, Timpview: The season is young, but this talented junior has already made quite a splash for the Thunderbirds' swimming team.

Last weekend, Skabelund won two individual events (200- and 500-meter) and was part of a pair of winning relay teams at the Utah County Invitational in Orem. The freestyle specialist won the 200 by eight seconds (2:02.31) and the 500 by more than 12 seconds (5:30.6).

"She has a wonderful kick," said Timpview coach Cara Armstrong of Skabelund, who also has wins in the 100-meter backstroke and freestyle races this year. "She's a hard worker and is very dedicated. She's a calm person, but she's a motivator."

Skabelund is a team captain for swimming and was one for the soccer squad this fall, too. She is carrying a 4.0 GPA. "She is a good girl," added Armstrong.
