On Saturday, November 13, 1999, Brent (Mat) Mathews Hill, 45, a loving husband, father, grandfather, son and friend returned to his Heavenly Father.
He was born on January 19th , 1954, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Chester C. and Hazel Mathews Hill. He married his eternal companion and best friend, Mary Ann Eppich, on June 14, 1973.Mat had a true zest for life and valued education. He received his Bachelors degree in Education from Utah State University, his Masters degree in Counseling and Guidance from Brigham Young University, his Doctorate degree in Child and Family Studies from Nova University in Florida, and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah. He never stopped learning adding a forth career of professional student.
He loved his involvement working with troubled youth at Heritage Youth Services in Spanish Fork and at Weber Human Services. He was an adjunct professor at Weber State University in the Child and Family Studies Department and a Practicum advisor with Nova Southeastern University in Early Childhood Development. He enjoyed every student he had the opportunity to teach. He was a master teacher who made learning fun, theatrical, and musical, occasionally embarrassing a student or two. He was also a member of the Utah State and Weber County Bar Associations. He always tried to use his knowledge of the law to help friends and those in need. He loved those he worked with in all of his professional areas.
He loved his family with all his heart and was an incredible example to all of them. As a couple Mat and Mary Ann worked to build their loving relationship. They were connected together in all aspects of fun, sorrow, laughter and romance
He enjoyed taking his family on trips to different parts of the United States, often mixing something educational in with the fun. He loved to see his family smile.
He was an active member of the LDS church, serving as the stake mission president, Elders Quorum president, High Counselor, and a member of the Bishopric. His favorite calling has been teaching the High Priests for the last 12 years.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Ann Hill of Ogden; three sons and a daughter, Aaron J. (Kedrann) Hill, Salt Lake City; Rachel C. Hill, Taylor O. Hill, Brent R. Hill all of Ogden; one grandson, Gabriel C. Hill, Salt Lake City; his father, Chester C. (Virginia) Hill; four brothers and two sisters, David (Beverly) Hill, Murray; Denny (Betty) Bleak, Sandy; Alan Bleak; Justin (Chris) Hill, Glendale, AZ; Marily Hill, Salt Lake City; Holly (Mike) Baird, Ammon, ID; and his Mother-in-law, Gladys Eppich, Salt Lake City.
The mother that gave him life, Hazel Mathews Hill, and Maxine Bleak Hill the mother that raised him to be the man he was preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be held at the Mt. Lewis 1 st
Ward, 435 N. Jackson on Wednesday, November 17, 1999 at 11 a.m. with Bishop Larry Patane officiating. Friends may call on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Myers Mortuary in Ogden, 845 Washington Blvd., and on Wednesday from 9:45-10:45 a.m. at the church.
Interment, Myers Evergreen Memorial Park.
