Our dear husband, father, grandpa, brother, and uncle passed away peacefully at home at the age of 86.
He was born June 5th, 1913 in Mona, Utah. He was the first child of Wilford Ray and Mary Syrelda Newton. Karl returned to his loving Father in Heaven early Sunday Morning, November 14, 1999.His beloved wife of 58 years is Anna Mae Sowby of Levan, Utah. They were married in Levan on December 6, 1942 which was later solemnized in the Salt Lake City Temple.
Karl served in the military in World War II in the European campaign. he was honorably discharged in February of 1946 as a Staff Sergeant.
As an active member of the LDS Church, Karl served faithfully, including the position of ward clerk for over ten years. He worked most of his life as a skilled auto mechanic, not only as his occupation but often rescuing those needing assistance.
Karl loved growing up in the foothills of majestic Mt. Nebo. He played the saxophone in a dance band during his early years. He loved the great outdoors, having a keen appreciation for the wonders of nature. Karl enjoyed gardening and was particularly proficient at growing tomatoes.
Karl had an impeccable work ethic and place high value on a life of integrity. He served his family and others with great dedication and love. He had a devout faith in Jesus Christ and his Heavenly Father. He will be deeply missed by those who knew him.
Survived by his wife, Anna Mae; daughters, Lana (Kirk) Denison, Sandra (Michael) Leseberg; sons, Dale (Holly) Newton, and Larry Ray Newton; 13 grandchildren; a brother, Paul Newton; and three sisters, Zelda Summers, Dorothy Tidwell and Virginia Jarrett.
A viewing will be held Wednesday, November 17th, 1999 from 6-8 p.m. at the Deseret Mortuary, 36 East 700 South, SLC, Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 18th, 1999 at 11 a.m. in the Wells Ward Chapel, 1990 S. 500 East, SLC. Friends may visit that morning between 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the services. The interment will be at the Mona Cemetery in Mona, Utah approximately 3 p.m. that afternoon.
