American Fork

Enrollment is up in the Alpine School District, according to a recent report released by the school board.As of Oct. 1, 45,553 students are going to regular school in the north Utah County district, an increase of 594 over last year's figures. Over a 20-year period, the district has grown nearly 100 percent.

Eagle Mountain

The town of Eagle Mountain will open its first library Monday, Nov. 22, in the fire station building in the town center. The library will be open Monday through Friday each afternoon from 2-6 p.m. initially and on Saturdays from 10-2 p.m.

Resident Liisa Nusz has assembled a library committee that has spearheaded the effort to pull the library system and the resources together.

Orem

Farmer's Insurance, Utah's second largest insurance company, is offering four half-tuition scholarships to collision repair students at Utah Valley State College. This year's recipients are John Barratt, American Fork; Clint Horn, Provo; Jared LeRoy, Springville; and Michael Miller, Provo.

The scholarship program chooses recipients based on grades, work experience, need and commitment to the collision repair industry. The college has a 100 percent placement rate for graduates of the program who seek jobs in the collision repair industry.

Pleasant Grove

Resident Robert Schow has been honored by the mayor and City Council in Pleasant Grove for his part in seeing to the restoration of the Historic Winter Corral in the Pioneer Park at 100 S. 100 E.

The corral is a three-sided rock shelter used in the 1940s on the west side of town for birthing livestock. Schow has been instrumental in seeing the sheep fold recreated as a place for picnics and summer events.

Provo

Students at Timpview High School will present "Fiddler On the Roof" at 7:30 p.m., Nov. 18-20, 22 . in the high school auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults, $3 for students with ID cards, and $2 for children.

The stage production will tell the famous story of Tevye, the Jewish dairy farmer who, despite all of his surrounding problems, survives because of "tradition". Those traditions are tested as his daughters want to marry for love, not through a matchmaker, and go so far as to marry outside the faith.
