Our sweet mother, Mamie "Lerona" Pierson Carpenter, 84, passed away on the night of Nov. 14, 1999, at the Sandy Regional Health Center from causes relating to age.

She was born in Oasis, Utah on January 28, 1916 to Carl and Mamie Gillen Pierson. She lived all her life in Sandy, and attended the Sandy City schools.She served a mission for the LDS Church in the Northern States area. Upon returning home, she married Harold B. Carpenter on April 17, 1940 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Lerona has worked as a volunteer in various places including, Primary Children's Hospital, Utah Historical Society, and the Sandy Museum, where she was volunteering at the time of her death.

Lerona held various Church positions, including ward and stake librarian, Relief Society president, Sunday School teacher, Primary and Young Women's teacher. She took care of numerous children during the years and was a fantastic homemaker and mother.

Survivors include her children: her daughter, Carrie (Norman) Abbott, Sandy; sons, Leslie (LaDee) of Taylorsville; Steve (Joan) of American Fork; Mike (Florence) of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Richard (Elfonda) of Benton, Wash.; 21 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren; brothers: Kenneth Pierson of Modesto, Calif and Wayne Pierson of Bountiful. Preceded in death by her husband; parents; and sister, Nelda Litchfield.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, Nov. 19, 1999 at 12 noon in the Sandy 1st Ward, 8650 South 220 East. Friends may call Thursday, 6-8:30 p.m. at the Larkin Sunset Gardens Mortuary, 10600 South 1700 East and Friday at the Ward, 10:45-11:45 a.m. Interment Larkin Sunset Gardens.
