Cathleen Chugg Swing passed away on November 15, 1999 after a four-year battle with breast cancer.
Cathy was born on April 28, 1951 in Salt Lake City, Utah. She grew up in cities throughout Utah and Montana, graduating from Helena High in 1969. She was a Bengalette, captain of the ski team and the cheerleading squad. She attended the University of Montana in Missoula, where she also captained the ski team. She continued her studies and graduated from Brigham Young University where she had the opportunity to study abroad in Israel and Egypt. She walked where Jesus walked, climbed Mount Sinai, rode camels to the pyramids, and swam in the Red Sea, Dead Sea and the Mediterranean Sea. She also had the opportunity to spend 30 days in the Grand Canyon on survival training while attending BYU. She finished her graduate studies at the University of Utah where she received her teaching certificate. She has traveled all over the world vacationing with her husband and family, skiing and studying art. She was a champion ski racer and won the 1994 International Masters Cup, and also won other nationally televised races. She taught skiing for years at Park West where she met her husband. They later decided to earn theircoaching licenses together enabling them to lead the Youth Ski Team for Park West, Wolf Mountain and The Canyons resort in Park City, Utah. She was a water safety instructor and taught swimming lessons while living in Plano, Texas. She was active in LDS church Sunday school and Young Women's organization. She loved the outdoors, camping, boating, and skiing.
She is survived by her husband Mike Swing and four children, Jesse 20, Sierra 18, Jannicke 14, and Blaise 10; her parents Don and Barbara Chugg of Missoula, Montana; a sister Sandy Klein and her husband Seth of Kirkland, Washington; a brother Ken Chugg and his wife Cheri of Helena, Montana; a nephew Jason Shultz of Seattle, Washington; and five nieces, Lindsi, Lisa, and Jessica Chugg of Helena, Montana and Sarah and Ariele Klein of Kent, Washington.
She lived her life with an urgency never wasting one moment. She has accomplished more in her 48 years than most of us will ever dream. Cathy was a special person who inspired many lives by the enormity of her faith, strength and outlook on life. She stayed true to her values of family, helping all children, leading a simple life, being tough and always unselfish. She will always be loved and missed by everyone she touched.
A viewing will be held on Wednesday November 17, 1999 from 7p.m.-9 p.m. at Larkin Sunset Lawn. 2350 East 1300 South. The Funeral Service will take place on Thursday November 18, 1999 at 1 p.m. at the Pinebrook Ward Church House located at 2555 West Kilby Road. Continuing to the Park City Cemetery for the Dedication of the Grave.
