I am a citizen of the Draper community who took the opportunity to vote against the recent legislation Proposition One. I applaud those who chose to voice their opinion on the subject. It is our right to vote and participate in controversial matters.
The effect alcohol has on a city can be tremendous. If Proposition One had passed, society in Draper would suffer for two reasons: One, taxpayers would be paying more because of the lost revenue created by alcohol in restaurants. Two, a few restaurants threatened to move their business elsewhere in protest. That would leave a black scar on the face of Draper and damage its reputation as a dignified city.I believe people should put their trust in what they believe. The freedom of choice is a very precious and delicate gift. If it is not protected and upheld by the people, it will be lost. If our agency is taken away, we will become subject to outside pressures and democracy will fail. Proposition One tried to bend that rule. One person can make a difference no matter what society says. Stand up for your rights and vote.
