DIVING: BYU dominated the first day of the three-day USC Trojan Invitational Thursday, led by senior all-American Rachelle Smith, who captured the 1M event (413.30). The men narrowly missed a 1-2 3-meter finish, second and third by .05.WRESTLING: BYU won its first meet 22-14 over Ricks College. It may be the final season of wrestling at BYU. Junior heavyweight Chris Miller lost a close match to Ricks' James Hummell, 8-7. The lightweights led a Y. 19-3 run through the next six matches.

FRATERNITY RUN TONIGHT: Members of Utah's Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity begins the trek to Provo tonight at 10 at Rice-Eccles Stadium for the Kevin B. Kennedy Memorial Game Ball Run to raise money for kids battling cancer.
The group is to arrive at BYU's Cougar Stadium in time for the game Saturday at 1 p.m.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Wildcats open the 1999-2000 season Monday hosting Wyoming. Tip-off is 6 p.m. in the Dee Events Center, ahead of the men's game with Westminster of Salt Lake at 8.
VOLLEYBALL: Liz Covill was named a member of the GTE Academic All-District VIII first team for the second straight year. The 5-11 senior middle blocker from Laketown has maintained a 4.0 GPA through her career.

VOLLEYBALL: The second-ranked Bruins battle Redlands Community College of Oklahoma in the first round of the NJCAA Volleyball Tournament in Overland Park, Kansas, Monday. The Bruins (42-3) have a 22-match win streak.
