A measure that will let millions of satellite dish subscribers watch their local TV news, weather and sports broadcasts -- as cable owners do now -- is headed to the Senate.
Lawmakers are under pressure to pass the bill because a key piece of it protects more than a million satellite subscribers now receiving local channels who face losing those signals by year's end.The satellite legislation, tacked onto the massive budget bill the House passed Thursday, also aims to boost satellite's position as a rival to cable by allowing satellite companies to offer local channels.
Two disputed provisions were dropped from the bill before it became part of the appropriations package.
