Mapleton
Expansion of the sewer treatment plant in Spanish Fork may be costly for Mapleton.The council discussed contributing to the next expansion, estimated at $3.5 million. Mapleton's sewer connects to the treatment plant, and the city will need more capacity as the town grows, City Administrator Keith Morey said. The next expansion may come in three years, Morey said, but the $3.5 million estimate could rise by then.
Orem
An after-school program for young artists is recruiting members for an American Ambassadors performing group.

Payson
A $5 million loan will help Payson upgrade its sewer plant and increase the usefulness of the city landfill.
The City Council approved the Water Quality Assistance Loan from the state Wednesday. Once upgraded, the water that comes out of the sewer treatment plant will be pure enough for officials to divert to the city's secondary irrigation system, Mayor Gordon Taylor said. The secondary irrigation system waters yards and gardens. The city will use part of the money to upgrade the landfill to improve recycling of green waste and sewer sludge, Taylor said.
Provo
The service officer from the American Legion will be at the Provo Employment Center Wednesday, Dec. 8, from 1 to 2 p.m. The officer assists individuals applying for VA benefits, including compensation, pension, hospitalization, education and other benefits.
This is a free service and veterans need not be members of the American Legion to receive assistance. Veterans using the service are asked to bring the following documents: DD Form 214, marriage/divorce papers, birth/adoption/death certificates, and children's social security numbers.
Salem
An annual contract to keep the county bookmobile atSalem Elementary School won a nod from the City Council on Wednesday. The contract expires in January, when the new contract takes over, Mayor Randy Brailsford said.
The contract for Mt. Loafer Elementary School is still in negotiation. About a third of the school comes from Salem and the rest from neighboring communities. Officials are still working out how to share the cost of the bookmobile for next year's service.
Santaquin
City crews will drill a test well near the mouth of Santaquin Canyon as a possible new source of water for the city.
If the test well pumps properly, the city will put in a new city well there and a million-gallon water tank by midsummer, City Administrator Tom Austin said. The city designated three locations for possible well sites before picking the one near the canyon, he said.
Spanish Fork
Eight acres of land on the west side may be annexed into the city.
The City Council agreed to a study that could lead to the annexation at 630 W. 200 North. The city surrounds the farmland on three sides. Before the land can be annexed, it first must go through a study and protest period.
