The Utah District Office of the U.S. Small Business Administration was named the National SBA "Best of the Best" for fiscal year 1999.

Under the direction of Stan Nakano, district director, the office was chosen as the best district office from all 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Guam and the U.S. Virgin Islands.The Utah office won the award based on which district office had the highest percentage increase in goal achievement.

During the 1999 fiscal year, the Utah office had record-breaking numbers for new market loans. Among these were record numbers of SBA-backed loans to small businesses owned by African-Americans, Hispanics and Native Americans, as well as record numbers of loans to firms owned by women and veterans.
