"Last of the Great Gentlemen"

On November 16, 1999, George Wesley Atkinson passed away as the result of a short and courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his family."Wes" was born on July 9, 1916 in LaCompton, Kansas. Married Geneva Fern Harris on October 31, 1933 in Leavenworth, Kansas. She preceded him in death in April of 1998.

"Wes" was president and owner of Atkinson Steel Company, Atkinson Wrecker & Supply Company, and F & W Leasing Corp. He was in the reinforcing steel business for most of his life. The other loves besides his family, were the Ambassador Club; where he was president for three times running and the El Kalah Shrine where he was a band member and chairman of the board for nine years at the Shriner's Hospital for Crippled Children. Later became an emeritus member of endorsements, wills and gifts on the board of governors for the hospital.

"Wes" is survived by his daughter, Connie Pease (Butch); son, George W. Atkinson II (Dorothy); three brothers and three sisters. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, five step-grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren.

Services will be held at 12 noon on Sat., November 20, 1999 at Wasatch Lawn Mortuary Chapel, 3401 Highland Drive, where friends and family may call on Friday from 6-8 p.m. and on Saturday from 10:30-11:45 a.m., prior to services. Interment, Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park, Rosemont section.
