Leonore Antonie Sprie Seegmiller Berkman Field, 91 1/2; died November 17, 1999 at the home of her oldest son, Bob, in Provo, Utah, of natural causes related to old age.
Leonore was born June 16, 1908, in Konigsberg, East Prussia, Germany, to Robert Emil and Kate Bertha Ritter Sprie. She was the sixth of their nine children. She married William Seegmiller in New York Aug. 30, 1931. Their first baby girl died 21 Oct. 1933. William died Feb. 7, 1937, in New York. She married Samuel Joseph Berkman Field Feb. 10, 1938 in New York. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Salt Lake LDS Temple Sept. 24, 1956. Samuel preceded her in death July 24, 1961, in Provo, Utah.Leonore came to America in 1929 at age 21. She lived in New York for 30 years where she was active in the Brooklyn and Queens Wards. In 1959, the family moved to Provo, Utah, where she was a resident for 37 years and an active member of the Pleasant View 9th Ward. In 1995, she moved to the Seville Retirement Center in Orem.
She was baptized in the LDS Church in Germany in 1917. For 17 years she worked in the Primary as Teacher and President; for 9 years in the Mutual as a Teacher and Counselor, and has always belonged to the choir. Leonore worked in the Provo LDS Temple for six years. She bowled at BYU in a league for 17 years, and retired three months before her 85th birthday. She will best be remembered for her friendly smile, her unconditional love, genuine interest in her family members and friends, her ability to beat all her relatives in Scrabble and her chocolate chip and butter cookies.
Special appreciation is expressed to Sandra and John Turner, Managers of the Seville Retirement Center, Laura, the Housekeeper, and all the staff and residents for their many kindnesses to Leonore for the last four years.
She is survived by her two sons and two daughters: Robert (Claire) of Provo, Utah; Eugene (Jayne), of North Redington Beach, Florida; Susan (Jim) Walles, Sandy, Utah; Kathy (Dave) Wallace, Phoenix, Arizona; 18 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; and one great great-granddaughter.
Funeral services will be held Monday, November 22, 1999, at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant View 9th Ward Chapel, 2445 North 650 East in Provo. Friends may call Sunday from 6-8 p.m. at the Sundberg-Olpin Mortuary, 495 South State St. in Orem and also Monday morning from 10-10:45 a.m. at the ward chapel. Interment will be in the Orem City Cemetery.
