EMERY -- Jerry D. Mangum,

66, passed away Nov. 17, 1999 while serving as a missionary with his wife in the Nauvoo, Ill. Mission.He was born March 4, 1933 in Huntington to Darwin and Leola Grange Mangum. He married Norma Margaret Sorensen Feb. 25, 1956 in Emery; later solemnized in the Manti LDS Temple.

He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict having served in the U.S. Navy on the Aircraft Carrier Boxer. As an active member of the LDS Church he served as Bishop of the emery Ward and as Stake President of the Ferron, Utah Stake. He also served as a county commissioner for Emery County. He loved people and lived his life to serve them. He will be greatly missed by his family and many, many friends he leaves behind.

He is survived by his wife, Margaret of Emery; and nine children: JoAnn (Sidney) Jensen of Castle Dale; Bonnie (Richard) Graham of Emery; RaeLyn (Rodney) Swasey of Ferron; J.D. (Marian) Mangum of Emery; Rodney (Sandy) Mangum of Huntington; Bruce (Angie) Mangum of Salt Lake City; Brian (Becky) Mangum of Salt Lake City; Shaun Mangum of Salt Lake City; and Melina (Jason) Lake of Salt Lake City; 23 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Also survived by brothers, James Manum of Orem; Donald Mangum of Emery and Monte Mangum of Huntington; and sisters, Jean Killpack of Logan; Margie Tomsic of Moab; Mamie Noyes of Salt Lake City; Rose Ungerman of Huntington; Carol Norton of Salt Lake City; and sister-in-law, Judy Mangum of Huntington.

Preceded in death by his parents, brothers Clark and Lynn; sister Grace; and one son-in-law, Dee Peay.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Nov. 22, 1999 at 12 noon, in the Emery LDS Chapel. Friends may call Sunday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Fausett Mortuary in Castle Dale, and two hours prior to services at the church. Burial in the Emery Cemetery.
