More charges have been filed against a suspected West Valley gang leader already charged in connection with a string of armed robberies last year.

Charges filed in 3rd District Court Monday say Mesa Rith, 21, a 20-year-old Kearns man and two others robbed a Taylorsville Circuit City store last November. Rith and the other suspects allegedly arrived at the store, 5516 S. Redwood Road, at closing time and took the store manager's truck from him at gunpoint. The charges say the suspects then forced the manager to open the store, where they allegedly stole the safe and stereo equipment. The safe contained several thousand dollars. The suspects bound the store manager with duct and electrical tape before leaving in the manager's truck, the charges say. The truck was found abandoned sometime later, and the suspects allegedly split the proceeds of the robbery among themselves.

Rith and the Kearns man were both charged with three counts of aggravated robbery, a first-degree felony, in this incident.

Rith was charged in December with two other armed robberies -- a home invasion and a jewelry store heist. And he was indicted last month on federal bank robbery and firearms charges in connection with the Nov. 24 robbery of a Zions Bank.

Rith was also questioned in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Bethany Hyde, who was gunned down in the back seat of a car while stopped at an intersection. No arrests have been made.
