On March 17, 1999, Rick Spuhler died as a result of a tragic accident while on an "adventure" in Mexico.

Always a risk taker, Rick led a full and exciting life. He was born on February 16, 1954 in Oakland, California to John and Winnie Spuhler. He received his education in California and attended Ricks College. He moved to Florida in 1974 and was trained as a Respiratory Therapist. These skills made it possible for him to work and travel throughout the South for many years. He moved to Utah in 1980 and was a 1986 graduate of the University of Utah College of Nursing. He worked for Intermountain Health Care from 1980 to the time of his death. His career covered many areas of health care practice from Newborn ICU to Air Ambulance. He was a Flight Nurse for Life Flight covering both LDS Hospital and Primary Children's Medical Center. He loved his work, and was proud of the contribution he made to the Life Flight Program. Rick also loved the "crew" he worked with. Some of his fondest memories were of experiences related to Life Flight and the team.Rick loved the outdoors, was an Eagle Scout and enjoyed camping, boating, biking, and hiking. He was a kind and compassionate human being who was loved by many. His greatest love was his family. He married his best friend, Vicki Jensen, on April 22, 1982. They had a wonderful marriage blessed with three beautiful daughters, Erin (14), Jessica (11) and Emily (7).

Rick is survived by his wife; his three daughters; parents; sister, Nancy Roundy (Ron); and his in-laws, Tom and Shirley Jensen; sister and brothers-in-law, Shauna and John Larson, Steven and Michelle Jensen. He has multiple nieces and nephews: Nathan, Brandon and Josh Roundy, Nathan and Britton Jensen, Sara and Eric Jensen, Ryan and Andrea Larson.

Funeral services will be held at 12 noon on Wednesday, March 24, 1999 in the Cottonwood Heights 4th Ward, 2522 East 6720 South. Friends may call at the Wasatch Lawn Mortuary, 3401 South Highland Drive on Tuesday from 6-9 p.m. and at the ward on Wednesday from 10:30-11:45 a.m. prior to services. Interment Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park.
