Our beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend passed away the morning of March 19th following a battle with cancer.
She was born in Salt Lake City on December 20, 1923 to Frank Leo and Beatrice Butler Olson. She attended South High School and graduated from the LDS Business College. She married Robert Smith Thorup on September 10, 1951, with whom she had three children. Their marriage was later solemnized and their family sealed together in the Salt Lake Temple.Mom was a quiet, thoughtful, and unselfish woman who always put her family and friends above herself. If there was a sacrifice to be made or a service to be rendered, Mom was always first in line. Most often, however, no one ever knew of the sacrifices she made to bring happiness into the life of someone else. She loved her family and was proud of their accomplishments. She raised her children to be honest, hard-working, and to trust in Our Heavenly Father. She developed a special bond with her grandchildren who she loved very much. They always looked forward to visiting Grandma on Sundays, and she had the ability to bring out the best in each one of them. Although she did not consider herself talented, we all know how very creative she really was. This was most evident in her arts and crafts and in the way she always made holidays special for her children and her grandchildren.
After Dad retired, Mom and Dad enjoyed traveling, and they saw many wonderful sights together. She loved spending time with her siblings and her brothers and sisters-in-law, and her family is very appreciative of the care they have rendered and concern they have shown for her.
She is survived by her children (and spouses), Bob and Nancy Thorup, Gary and Suzanne Thorup, and Becky (Thorup) Arbon; 12 grandchildren; and her siblings, Maxine (Olson) and Carl Freeman, Frank and Barbara Olson, Afton (Olson) Miles, and Emma Lou Olson.
Graveside services will be held Monday, March 22, 1999 at 12 noon in Wasatch Lawn Memorial Park (3401 South Highland Drive). Services under direction of Russon Brothers Mortuary.
