I was a witness to a four-car accident at the intersection of Beck Street and Victory Road on Saturday morning, March 6. This accident bothered me greatly.

I decided to take one of our 3-month-old triplets while leaving the others with my husband while I went to a lunch date to meet my two good friends I haven't seen for a while. I buckled my sweet little one in the back seat of my little Geo and off I went. The light at the intersection was red by the time I arrived so I took a quick look at the rearview mirror when I stopped behind a black car who was at the white line of the intersection. In my horror, I saw a white SUV bearing down in my lane. . . no signs of slowing down. Then at the last minute, the SUV swerved to the next lane and slammed into a white hatchback that was waiting at the light, scattering the hatchback's contents all over the road.

The SUV kept on going, pushing the hatchback out of the way and turned into Victory Road into the oncoming traffic. The SUV "juggernaut" hit two more cars and one of the cars was filled with children.

Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. The male driver of the SUV, who was in his 50s or so, was under the influence and didn't even brake before hitting the first car. The police just took his car away and told us that they were going to investigate before deciding on anything.

The reason the accident bothered me so much is that someone was willing to drive under the influence without so much as a thought to the consequences of forsaking "responsibility."

It is a terrible shame.
