BOSTON (AP) -- Crews working through the night repaved a stretch of I-93 scorched when a gasoline tanker truck exploded.
The highway, a major route between Boston and points south, was reopened shortly before Monday's morning rush hour. The explosion Sunday engulfed the truck and two cars in flames, charred the pavement and melted guardrails. Flames shot 100 feet into the air and flowed along a quarter-mile stretch of the southbound side of the highway.
Four people -- the truck driver, two motorists and a firefighter -- were injured but not seriously.
Some unburned gasoline flowed into the ocean in Dorchester Bay next to the highway, and some flowed into storm drains near wetlands.
The truck carrying 10,200 gallons of gasoline blew up after striking a guard rail, overturning onto one side and sliding along the highway, officials said.
