LOGAN (AP) -- A man arrested in Pennsylvania and extradited to Logan has pleaded not guilty to charges of robbing two local banks.
Stephen Michael Fairchild faces two counts of aggravated robbery. He pleaded not guilty Friday in 1st District Court.According to court documents, a young man entered Logan's First Security Bank on Dec. 18.
He slid a teller a note reading, "Give me four stacks of hundreds. I have a gun," but the teller could not read it and the man showed a gun, the report states. The thief made off with $1,100.
Court documents say police were tipped to Fairchild as a possible suspect in early January. But they didn't follow up until after a second robbery, at a Logan Zions Bank, on Jan. 6.
In that robbery, the thief made off with $2,000 after handing a teller a note that said, "I have a gun. Don't make me use it. I want $2,000 in $100 bills."
Police say bank tellers positively identified a photograph of Fairchild. He was arrested at his father's home in White Haven, Pa.
Fairchild was being held in the Cache County Jail.
