Thurlan Kent Carter, age 76, died March 20, 1999 in Provo, Utah.

He was born September 7, 1920, to Jess and Josephine Cluff Carter in Glenbar, Arizona, and with five siblings was raised in the Arizona mountains and a fine farming community, Pima, Arizona. The children were taught to be frugal, honest, benevolent and that love and loyalty were first in their lives. He married Valoie Hyde May 15, 1945 in the Mesa LDS Temple.T.K. attended Pima schools and graduated from the high school there. He graduated from Gila Jr. College in Thatcher, Arizona, and was active in dramatics and broadcasting.

He and his friend, Wayne Weech, joined the service after the bombing of Pearl Harbor and served with the Air Force. He became a radar operator and later a navigator with the photo reconnaissance. After the war, he became a private pilot because of his training with the 20th Air Force. He returned from the South Pacific and went back to school at UCLA and received his bachelor degree in accounting.

His is survived by his wife of Provo; one son and one daughter, Barry and Kristine Carter, of Orem; Melody and Lynn Bingham, of Orem; 14 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Also survived by one brother, Marland Carter of Phoenix, Arizona.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 24, 1999, in the Grandview 2nd Ward chapel, 1120 North 850 East, Provo, at 2 p.m. Friends may call at Berg Mortuary, 185 East Center, Provo, Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. or at the chapel one hour prior to services. Interment will be in the Provo City Cemetery. Full Military Honors by the VFW District #4.
