A search for a fugitive turned into a significant drug bust for police Monday night.

A neighborhood drug squad alerted the Salt Lake County Sheriff's Department that a wanted fugitive was holed up in a house at 4500 W. 4955 South, Lt. Leslee Collins said.Adult Probation and Parole officers responded to the house with sheriff's deputies about 6 p.m. Monday, Collins said. They knocked on the front door but got no response. However, a short time later, officers observed chemicals being thrown out a back window, causing small explosions and fires.

Entering the house, authorities found a working methamphetamine lab, Collins said. Officers took the fugitive into custody along with four other people, who were booked into Salt Lake County Jail on investigation of operating a clandestine drug lab.
