BASEBALL: After a four-week diet of league foes, BYU's baseball team has some non-conference action against Southern Colorado and Southern Utah.Schedule changes have moved the Southern Colorado games to a Wednesday doubleheader at noon in Provo. The Cougars then play noon doubleheaders on Friday and Saturday at SUU.

BYU, now 12-14 overall and 7-5 in the Western Athletic Conference, will use wood bats in the Southern Colorado series. The Thunderwolves and Cougars used wood bats to open the season.

Starting for the Cougars against USC are Rusty Gray (2-2, 9.75) and Paul Jacinto (0-0, 9.31). Micah Mangrum (2-2, 8.38) and Jordan Opdahl (2-4, 10.27) will start on Friday. Curtis Rodriguez (3-2, 6.06) and a pitcher to be determined will go on Saturday.

With six games on the docket, it appears likely that coach Gary Pullins will notch his 900th career victory this week. Pullins is 898-445-6 (.668) record in 23-plus seasons at BYU.

MEN'S GOLF: Junior Andy Miller shot consecutive rounds of 73 for a 146 with a round remaining at the Morris Williams Intercollegiate on Monday. Miller's play helped put BYU into a fourth place position thus far at the par-72, 6,906 yard Austin Country Club.

Georgia leads with 587 through the opening two rounds. Ryuji Imada of Georgia leads all golfers with 72-70 142. Other BYU scores include Billy Harvey tied for 19th with 74-77 151. Jose Garrido is at 81-71 152, Scott Miller at 77-76 153 and Todd Miller at 80-80 160.

TRACK: With rain drenching facilities at Cal Poly for half the meet, BYU's men's and women's track teams competed against only one full team instead of the three they came to face.

The men's team, without injured top runners Leonard Myles-Mills and Kenneth Andam, took 10 first-place finishes to win the meet with 201 points. The women's team also recorded 10 firsts but was second with 201 points, one less than Utah State.

Because of the weather, Cal Poly withdrew several of its athletes; University of California withdrew completely.

Despite the weather and lack of anticipated competition, both Y. teams had notable performances. Female winners were Jolee Gillespie in the 1,500 meters (4:29.57); Kristel Berendsen in the long jump (18-5.25); Kristen McQuade in the high jump (5-8); Amy Curtis in the javelin (137-11); Aimee Nichols in the discus (129-3); Emili Lawson in the 5,000 meters (17:40.09); Melanie Steere in the 800 meters (2:10.59); Julie Bennion in the 200 meters (25.50); Elizabeth Jackson in the 3,000 meters (9:48.35); and the 1,600-meter relay team (3:50.36).

Jim Roberts led the men's team with two first-place finishes, one in the shot put (58-2.5) and one in the discus (171-2). Other BYU winners were Randy Himes in the 110-meter high hurdles (14.81); Clayton Patch in the 400 meters (48.16); Bryan Lindsay in the 1500 meters (3:51.94); Jeff Wilson in the 3,000-meter steeplechase (9:08.63); Jeff Taylor in the 800 meters (2:10.59); Matt Adams in the 5,000 meters (14:39.52); the 400-meter relay team (42.44); and the 1600-meter relay team (3:18.26).
