HERRIMAN -- A Salt Lake woman was shot and killed Tuesday morning after arguing with a friend while at his home.

Rachel Karren, 20, was with friends about 1:30 a.m. at the home of Darren Bluemel, 4350 W. 12750 South, when she apparently argued with Bluemel, Salt Lake County Sheriff's Sgt. Jim Potter said.Police believe Bluemel then took out a handgun and shot the woman twice. She was found lying on the ground outside the home.

Bluemel was arrested and booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of murder.

At this point police know very little about the events that led to the shooting. "We're still not clear about a motive," Potter said.

Bluemel and Karren had only met recently through mutual friends, one of whom may have brought Karren to Bluemel's for a party Monday night. One other man and another woman were present in the home when the shooting occurred. One of those people left immediately and called police from another location, Potter said.

Bluemel did not flee the scene and walked out of his house when sheriff's deputies arrived and began setting up a perimeter around the home. He was arrested without incident.
