SOUTH SALT LAKE -- A South Salt Lake woman who police say is developmentally delayed was kidnapped from a bus station and raped at knifepoint Wednesday.
The woman, 27, told police she was waiting for a bus near State Street and 3300 South about 7:30 p.m. when a man in a green, BMW-style, four-door sedan pulled up to the curb and told her to get in the car. When she refused, the man got out of the car, drew a knife and forced her into the passenger seat, Assistant Police Chief Beau Babka said.
The man took the woman to a location near 3700 South and 500 East and raped her, Babka said. Police don't know if the man took the woman into a building or residence or if he raped her in the car, Babka said.
The man then drove the woman back to the bus stop and left her, he said. She made her way home and called her LDS bishop, who contacted police about 10 p.m. A medical examination at a hospital determined the woman had been sexually assaulted.
