A man is facing an attempted murder charge over accusations he tried to stab his ex-wife to death.
The man lunged at the woman with a knife Saturday at her Sugar House home, prosecutors allege. He told her daughters, ages 8 and 11, that he was there to "kill your mom," before the attack, according to court documents filed Tuesday in 3rd District Court. After the first alleged stabbing attempt, the woman grabbed the man's hand and shoved him away. She ran out the front door and tried to make it to a neighbor's house to call police, but he caught her before she made it, prosecutors said.
He cut her face and head, court documents say. A struggle ensued and the woman took the knife away from the man. She told her daughter to take the weapon into the house and call police.
Officers arrested the man and booked him into the Salt Lake County Jail. He remains in jail with bail at $150,000.
The man, 39, is facing a count of aggravated burglary, a first degree felony, and attempted murder, a second-degree felony. Prosecutors also charged him with two counts of child abuse, a third-degree felony, and violation of a protective order, a class A misdemeanor. If convicted, he could spend life in prison.
