Lawrence William Leak, age 91, passed away March 23, 1999, of causes incident to age.
He was born July 11, 1907 to William John and Esther Pearson Leak in West Jordan, Utah, in the same home in which he lived until the last six months of his life. After graduating from Jordan High School, Lawrence was called to the Central States Mission where he served in the Springfield-Joplin, Missouri area. Following an honorable release, he continued to keep in touch with the friends he made there and returned several times for visits with them.Lawrence attended Brigham Young University for two years, then decided he wanted to follow in his father's footsteps and be a farmer, which he continued to do beyond his 90th birthday. He faithfully followed BYU sports and was a life-long Cougar Club Member.
He was a quiet, unassuming individual with a keen intellect, a long memory, a unique sense of humor, and a great appreciation for the kindness of neighbors and many friends. He loved kids and loved to tease them and they loved him in return. He enjoyed traveling, reading, and had a great love of learning.
He is survived by sisters, Ramona (Welden) Rasmussen, Draper; Irene Leak Schmidt, Ogden; sister-in-law, Mary Leak, Salt Lake City; and many nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Kenneth and John; and sister, Ruby Smith.
Funeral services will be held Saturday March 27, 1999, at 12 noon in the Bingham Creek 13th LDS Ward Chapel, 1925 West 9000 South. There will be a viewing from 10:30 to 11:45 a.m. at the church on Saturday. Interment, West Jordan City Cemetery.
