May 6, 1922, was a busy day for the Deseret News. Besides holding a debut for the city's first radio station, KZN, (see next page) the newspaper introduced to its readers a colored comics section. The section contained such then-current favorites as "Toots and Casper," "Polly and Her Pals," and "Barney Google." Each strip was self-contained. Serialized comics were an innovation for a later time.
