The name of Ab Jenkins was just coming to the forefront of automobile racing in June 1925. In a typical "stunt," he agreed to race the Western Pacific Train taking national and state dignitaries to Wendover for the dedication of the last section of east-west highway to cross Utah. Along the route, Jenkins placed small bags of salt beside the railway tracks to indicate he was still out-pacing the train. The next year, his cross-country run put him on the record books, the first in a long series of broken records for the Utahn.
