Petr Sykora scored the winner midway through the third period as the New Jersey Devils beat the Pittsburgh Penguins 5-3 Thursday night in East Rutherford, N.J., to maintain first place in the Atlantic Division.
Jason Arnott had a goal and two assists for the Devils. Randy McKay, Brad Bombardir and Patrick Elias also scored for New Jersey.The win moved the Devils three points ahead of the Penguins, who had gone unbeaten in the previous seven (4-0-3) to challenge for division leadership.

STARS 2, KINGS 1: At Inglewood, Calif., Brett Hull scored his league-leading 10th game-winning goal midway through the second period as the Dallas Stars put a serious crimp in the Los Angeles Kings' post-season plans.
