PROVO -- As part of the Take Pride in Provo Project, the Provo Fire Department is sponsoring a program to provide free smoke detectors to families who meet federal low-income guidelines.
Members of the BYU 154th Ward of the LDS Church will go door to door Saturday morning to locate families who qualify for the free detectors.National surveys have found that 85 percent of the homes in the country have smoke detectors. The survey also found that at any one time more than one-third of the detectors will not be operational.
