Three more candidates have opened campaign committees in the race for Salt Lake mayor.
Libertarian Ken Larsen, former Centro Civico Mexicano Director John Renteria and Buddy Wilkerson have filed campaign paperwork with the City Recorder's Office, according to The Associated Press.Attorney Ross "Rocky" Anderson, former Salt Lake County Commissioner Jim Bradley, state Rep. Dave Jones and city Community and Economic Development Director Stuart Reid have already opened committees.
The candidates still have to file official declarations of their candidacies with the city recorder to get their names on the Oct. 5 primary ballot. The top two vote-getters will advance to the Nov. 2 general election.
There may be even more competition by then. City Council Chairman Keith Christensen is reportedly weighing the idea of running. Mike Zuhl, chief of staff to former Mayor Palmer DePaulis and a candidate himself in 1991, is reconsidering his decision earlier this year not to run. Even Olympic critic Stephen Pace has joked about entering the race.
"If you see me standing in front of City Hall in a Jesse Ventura boa, you know the rumor has come to fruition," Pace says.
