GREENSBORO, N.C. -- Steve Thomas and Fredrik Modin scored two goals each to lead the Toronto Maple Leafs to a 7-2 win over the Carolina Hurricanes on Friday night.
Steve Sullivan added three assists and Thomas and Mats Sundin had two apiece as Toronto, the NHL's highest scoring team, reached seven goals in a game for the fifth time this season. The Hurricanes had not given up seven goals in a game since a 7-1 loss to Pittsburgh in November 1996.AVALANCHE 3, CAPITALS 1: At Denver, Patrick Roy tied Jacques Plante for the most overall career victories in NHL history with 505 as the Colorado Avalanche beat the Washington Capitals.
Roy, who finished with 19 saves, has won 406 regular-season games and 99 playoff games. He is 41 regular-season victories away from Terry Sawchuk's NHL record of 447.
PANTHERS 4, PREDATORS 1: At Sunrise, Fla., Radek Dvorak scored a pair of goals and Sean Burke stopped 27 shots as the Florida Panthers defeated the Nashville Predators.
The Panthers climbed to .500 (27-27-17) and kept their playoff hopes alive in the Eastern Conference.
RED WINGS 6, LIGHTNING 1: At Detroit, Chris Chelios scored his first goal for Detroit and Sergei Fedorov had a goal and two assists as the Red Wings beat the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Chelios, playing in his second game with Detroit since he was traded Tuesday from Chicago, had one of three Red Wings goals in the first period.
SHARKS 1, SENATORS 1: At Kanata, Ontario, Ottawa Senators defenseman Wade Redden scored with 46 seconds remaining in the third period to salvage a tie with the San Jose Sharks.
The Eastern Conference-leading Senators pulled out a point when Redden took a pass from Alexei Yashin in the slot and beat Mike Vernon.
OILERS 2, BLUES 1: At Edmonton, Alberta, Rem Murray scored twice in the second period to lead the Edmonton Oilers over the St. Louis Blues.
Murray scored on the power play at 11:34 of the second when defenseman Tom Poti's point shot deflected off his chest and into the net. Murray made it 2-0 44 seconds later with his 16th goal, beating Grant Fuhr after taking a pass across the goal-mouth from Bill Guerin.
DUCKS 5, STARS 1: At Anaheim, Calif., Teemu Selanne scored two goals and assisted on two others to lead the Anaheim Mighty Ducks over the Dallas Stars.
The loss, Dallas' first in five games against the Ducks this season, kept the Stars from clinching the Pacific Division championship in their first year in the division.
