Jean Rains, age 75, passed away at home on March 25, 1999 as the result of cancer.
She was born in San Francisco, California on April 28, 1923 to Leon Felix and Ruth Breer Rains. She attended Sewickley Academy and Sarah H. Lawrence School for Girls for her undergraduate education. She graduated from secretarial school in Pittsburgh, PA. She worked as a receptionist and secretarial assistant to a highly regarded physician in Pittsburgh for many years.Jean and her parents moved back to Salt Lake City in 1960. At that time, she and her youngest brother, Philip K. Rains, founded The Rains Company, specializing in high pressure hydraulics. Jean sold the company after Philip's death in 1986.
She is survived by her brother, James Breer Rains (Joan) and their two daughters, Deborah Leach (Brian) and Pamela Eckersley (Rand). Also surviving are John M. thornton (brother-in-law) and nieces and nephews: Anne Stromness, John Rains, Robert Rains, James Thornton, John Thornton, Elizabeth Thornton; four grand-nieces and nephews.
Jean especially wanted to thank all those unselfish care givers who gave her so much help and comfort during her life and in her last months. Most special thanks to Finau and Koli for their dedication. And deepest appreciation to Midge, Larry and Dorothy for all they have done over the years.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to Vista Care, 4444 South 700 East, or the American Cancer Society.
Funeral Services will be at 12 noon, Monday, March 29, 1999 at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 1342 East 500 So. The family will greet friends one hour prior to Services. Funeral Directors, Evans and Early Mortuary.
