The Utah Arts Council has offered Individual Artist Grants to three visual artists. The first is James Baker of Salt Lake City who received $1,000 for framing work for a one-person printmaking show at the Atrium Gallery. Joe Chesla of Logan received $1,000 for lumber, photography equipment and tools. And Lauren Schiller of Salt Lake also received $1,000 for preparation of an exhibition.Williams Fine Art will exhibit the work of Western historical artist Glen Hopkinson in a one-person show, March 31-April 16. Hopkinson learned painting from his famous Western artist father Harold Hopkinson, and lots of research to create his synthesis of art and history.

The Alvin Gittins Gallery on the University of Utah campus will be host to "Accumulation: A Sampling of 30 Years of Printmaking," and exhibit featuring three decades of artwork by students of Robert Kleinschmidt. Kleinschmidt will retire in June after 30 years of teaching printmaking at the U. The exhibit will fun from Monday, March 29, through Monday, April 5.

The St. George Art Festival's "The Renaissance of Art" will take place April 2-3 along historic Main Street in downtown St. George. The show will open at 10 a.m. and close at 6 p.m. Booth art will include watercolor, oils, sculpture, photography, pottery, woodwork and other creations.

WORKSHOPS, LECTURES, CLASSES

Dave Hickey, a freelance writer of fiction and cultural criticism, speaks at Utah State University Monday, March 29, at 7 p.m. in the Chase Fine Art Center, FAV 150. His topic is "What Art Does" and is part of USU's "Artist & Text," the Visiting Artist Program for this year. The lecture and reception are free to the public.
