Daniel L. Cooper's letter March 24 (Communist plot afoot) was a real eye- opener for me. He is mad as heck at the Legislature for opposing the English-only bill. He points out how their warped mentality coincides with Hitler's instructions to the Germans to ensure their language and culture was taught to German children in Austrian schools. He also writes that the Founding Fathers of America defeated a proposal to make German the American language.

I too, sir, fear the ultra right-wing faction in Utah, and although I haven't heard any of them speaking German, I'm sure they would love to erect a concentration camp or two. Luckily, I know of a safe house that will gladly take you in if the voices, in foreign tongue, become too much. Just go east on center street in Provo; they will accept you.I don't even want to know how Daniel knows the position of the Communist Party of the United States. Maybe he will tell me if we end up in the same safe house. As for the Legislature, opposing the nonissue of English only was the only thing they got right.
