NEW YORK -- In the last year alone, James Baldwin's writings landed on the Modern Library's list of the 100 finest English-language novels and in New York University's picks of 20th century American journalism classics.

More recently, the Library of Congress published a comprehensive collection of Baldwin's oeuvre, edited by Toni Morrison.Monday night Baldwin will become the latest in a succession of writers, including Robert Pinsky, Dante, Mark Twain and Casanova, to be heralded by the Manhattan Theater Club.
