LOGAN -- Utah State University's College of Natural Resources has awarded Lifetime Achievement Awards to three former students.
The university honored Everett R. Doman, Grant A. Harris and William D. Hurst for their professional work since earning a degree at the Logan school. An award for professional achievement in a natural-resources field also was given to Rex D. Pieper.Doman started his career with the Utah Fish and Game Department before moving to the U.S. Forest Service in 1943. He recently retired from his post as director of the Division of Fisheries and Wildlife in Washington, D.C.
Harris retired as chairman of the Department of Forestry and Range Management at Washington State University where he was a professor and scientist. He continues teaching and research and is internationally known for his research on cheatgrass and rangeland renovation.
Hurst spent 39 years with the Forest Service and retired as regional forester. He has been a fellow of both the Society of American Foresters and the Society for Range Management, of which he was also national president.
Pieper retired as assistant department head of range science at New Mexico State University. He has written or co-written nearly 200 publications on grazing and the management of rangeland.
