CEDAR CITY -- After a year of planning, the Cedar City Municipal Airport has received about $450,000 to make improvements.
Airport Manager Steve Farmer said one of the top priorities is to increase the amount of parking available for planes."We get very congested in the summer, with all of the private jets and smaller aircraft that come in here," he said. "This will alleviate some of that."
Other projects include connecting a city-owned building with a hangar to a taxiway; adding more taxi space to connect to an area where commercial development is planned; buying a precision approach path indicator for pilots to use as they land; and adding lighted "distance remaining" signs to the main runway.
The money comes from the Federal Aviation Administration, which takes on about 90 percent of the cost of some airport development grants. The city and state will chip in an additional $45,000.
