In honor of the 178th anniversary of Greek Independence Day, a program and dinner will be hosted by Greek-American community members today at the Hellenic Cultural Center, 279 S. 300 West in Salt Lake City, at 6 p.m.

A celebration will be presented by Greek youths, and a dinner will follow.The Greek Orthodox Church of Greater Salt Lake will honor one of its "stalwart" members, Theodore John Speros, for his meritorious service to the Greek community and for many other outstanding accomplishments.

Proclamations were signed by Utah Gov. Mike Leavitt and Salt Lake Mayor Deedee Corradini to declare March 25, 1999, as Greek Independence Day.
