BYU/SUUBASEBALL: BYU swept Southern Utah in a doubleheader Saturday afternoon in Cedar City. The Cougars won the first game 7-3 and took the finale, 9-3. SUU dropped to 9-26 on the season, while the Cougars improved to 17-15.

MEN'S GYMNASTICS: BYU's Cortney Bramwell won the still rings as the Cougar men's gymnastics team competed in the MPSF individual event championships Saturday in Norman, Okla. Bramwell, ranked first in the nation on still rings, placed in the top eight in two other events: fourth on parallel bars and eighth on vault.

TRACK & FIELD: Both the men's and the women's BYU track teams took first place Saturday at the Springtime Invitational in El Paso, Texas, which included BYU, UTEP and Colorado State. The women finished up with an impressive score of 166 points to Colorado State's 123 and UTEP's 64, while the men's team led with 146 points to UTEP's 119 and Colorado State's 116.

Utah

SOFTBALL: Sarah Farnworth gave up only four hits and Kristin Arbogast pitched a no hitter as Utah swept a Western Athletic Conference doubleheader from San Jose State, 4-1 and 5-0, on Saturday afternoon at San Jose State Field.

Utah improved to 14-16 overall and 2-3 in WAC play while San Jose State fell to 11-30 overall and 2-6 in conference play. The Utes and Spartans will play the final game today at 2 p.m MST.

BASEBALL: The Utah baseball team came back from a three-run deficit to defeat New Mexico 9-8. The Utes are now 14-14 and 2-6 in the WAC. New Mexico is 12-19 and 3-8 in WAC play. Utah had nine runs on 12 hits with no errors. The Utes and the Lobos finish the three-game series today at 1 p.m. at Franklin Covey Field.

Utah State

SOFTBALL: New Mexico State rapped out 17 hits in posting two victories against Utah State in a softball doubleheader on Saturday. NMSU defeated USU 7-4 in nine innings in the first game and then took an 8-3 decision in the second game. Utah State fell to 6-16 overall and 0-2 in Big West Conference play.

Junior colleges

BASEBALL: Utah Valley State College took a pair of Scenic West baseball games from the College of Southern Idaho Saturday, beating the Golden Eagles 8-7 and 20-10.
