OGDEN (AP) -- A man who admitted molesting two of his grandchildren has been sentenced to two years in the Weber County Jail.
Second District Judge W. Brent West Wednesday gave Edward Bruce Telford the stiffest sentence he could for the two class A misdemeanor child molestation charges.Telford pleaded guilty to fondling and illicit touching of his then 10-year-old granddaughter and her younger brother from August 1997 through June 1998, and from March to June 1998, respectively, according to court records.
"I have bad dreams thinking my grandfather is going to come and get me again. I can't sleep because I'm afraid I'll dream," his granddaughter said in a statement a victim advocate read in court Wednesday.
Adult Probation and Parole had given a pre-sentence recommendation that Telford serve 60 days in jail.
"They missed the boat on this case," Judge West said.
He set a review hearing in nine months to see if Telford would be amenable to therapy. But West said Telford's denial of the seriousness of his crimes, or any wrongdoing, makes him a poor candidate for therapy.
"I am of the opinion he still doesn't think this is important," West said. "He has no idea of the damage he's done."
Telford's son, Travis, is currently serving a 5-years-to life sentence for the 1994 murder of Troy Weston in Willard over a drug deal. His brother, John Telford, is serving a 9-years-to-life sentence for child sodomy.
