LAYTON -- Rezoning is proposed for two sections of the north end of Fort Lane from residential to light manufacturing status this spring.

The proposals will be considered during public hearings before the City Council at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 1, at City Hall, 437 N. Wasatch Drive. The first rezone proposal is for 2179 N. Fort Lane, on 8.8 acres of land. The second is a half-mile farther north at 2500 North Fort Lane, on 22.8 acres of property.

Both parcels of land are currently vacant and are located on the west side of the street.

According to City Planner Peter Matson, the current zoning on the smaller parcel is residential 8,000-square-foot lots, while the larger area is zoned for residential/mobile homes.

Matson said the Planning Commission has already recommended the two pieces of land be rezoned. His only concern is that developers avoid the "metal building syndrome" and build some more attractive structures.
