TOOELE--Doreen Ann Garcia Fleming, age 41 of Tooele, died of cancer March 26, 1999, in Salt Lake City, Utah.
She was born June 25, 1957, in Hayward, California, to Alvin William and Eileen Davena Mitchell Garcia. She married Gary Preston Nelson on September 25, 1985, in Salt Lake City. They were later divorced. She married H. Gary Fleming on November 14, 1998, in Tooele, Utah.Doreen is the sixth of seven children. She was the first to graduate in her family, and did so from Chico State University in 1980, and worked as a dietician for several hospitals. She was a captain in the Army National Guard in the 144th Evacuation Hospital having served in Desert Storm.
She was a member of the LDS Church and served as Young Women's President and loved working in the Primary. She was very creative and artistic, and loved gardening and growing flowers.
Survived by her husband residing in Tooele; two daughters, Amy Laura Nelson and Jodi Amber Nelson, both of Tooele; four step-children, Elder Brandon Fleming, serving in the Berlin, Germany LDS mission; Erin Fleming, Tooele; Kjirsten Fleming and Nathan Fleming, both of Springville; parents of Captain Cook, Hawaii; six brothers and sisters, Larry (Jeannie) Garcia, Holt, CA; Vince (Margaret) Garcia, Concord, CA; Diane Morte, Walnut Creek, CA; Philip (Aurora) Garcia, Captain Cook, Hawaii; Annelle (Roger) Boswell, Newcastle, CA; Catherine Garcia, Sacramento, CA; 32 nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 31, 1999,at 11 a.m. in the Lehi 6th Ward LDS Chapel, 200 So. 120 West, Lehi. Friends may call Tuesday evening from 7-9 p.m. at the Wing Mortuary, 118 E. Main, Lehi, and Wednesday at the church, one hour prior to services. Interment, Utah Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Camp Williams, with full military honors.
